Amatuer Radio Blog

Wow, it has been a while!

I have not made any Ham related posts in quite a while. I feel a bit negligent. I know i should not. We all have multiple things to do, and sometimes things can slip by the wayside. It happens.

The way I work with my hobbies is that I wind up focusing on one thing at a time. It is my nature. I am that curious cat. Curiosity is what drives me. Most folks can do simply fine with needing to know enough of something to accomplish a defined goal. To me, it is not the ‘what‘ that excites me, but the ‘why‘.

Because I get so intensely focused on a topic, I tend to shut out my other doings, at least for a short bit. One of the keys to learning something is to shut out distractions. I can do this automatically when I am on a project/hobby bender, no need to think about it. (That would be a distraction in itself)

This ability to shut things out does have its limits. At a certain point, something else catches my fancy. I dabble a bit in the new fancy. Soon enough, it is my primary focus and whatever I was doing previously goes on the back burner. It is hard to explain this behavior but the way I describe it to people is that “I rotate my hobbies.” Certainly, it is not something I plan, it is just when curiosity strikes me.

Meanwhile – I am trying to get back in touch with some of my radio friends. Right now, I have been checking up on friends on GMRS. I need to check into some of the local Ham radio nets. Also, it has been a while since I have been on HF – need to say hello to the guys on the Marine net, the Texas Traffic net, and the Freewheelers.
