Grand Catholic Tour of Italy: HERE

Mom and I experienced an awesome vacation-of-a-lifetime tour of Italy and of Oberammergau, Germany. I took lots and lots of photos here, and I am so glad I did. I never want to forget the wonder and awe of the sights.

I hope you enjoy these photos.

PLEASE NOTE: These photos are downloadable as jpeg images, but they are in the original resolution of 6000×4000 (or somewhat less if cropped) and employ minimal compression. This means an image might be as large as 10Mb or more.

The gallery here uses reduced-size images for display purposes, but if you would like to preview the full resolution (HD) image, just double click on an image to bring up the “lightbox” view. The lightbox uses the original size image.

Also note: these are holiday snaps, run-and-gun shots with no flash and only available light. Many of the venues where these shots were taken were extremely crowded with tourist traffic and holding them up for any length of time would be impolite. More than a few venues prohibited photography altogether (likely due to annoying “flash” lamps), but would look the other way if you didn’t use a  flash and got in an out without holding anything or anyone up. Sometimes I would prepare for indoor shots with a “nifty 50” – a f1.8 50mm lens mounted on the camera. Other times I was stuck with the f3.5-5.6 18-135mm zoom lens, which, while giving me the ability to perfectly frame a shot, was rather limited in it’s light gathering ability (indoors) without a flash. Occasionally, some of those shots might be a bit grainy, or might have a tag of motion blur. I can usually tweak setting in Adobe Lightroom to reduce noise (I haven’t done that except in a few cases), but motion blur I can’t fix. Everything is here, including the ones I wouldn’t call keepers, to allow you to choose which ones you like and download for yourself.
